2. GRAMMAR
Like/ love/ hate + verb + ing
like (+ verb -ing) --> NOT I love buy clothes.
I love shopping.
I like buying CDs.
I don't mind washing the dishes.
I don't like dancing.
I hate buying with my mother.
shopping (ir de compras) = going to the shops, e.g. I love shopping.
buying (comprar) = giving money in exchange for something. Say always "buying + noun", e.g. I love buying clothes; I like buying books.
love: I love you.
love: I love shopping.
Spelling rules:
· In the -ing form, verbs ending in y don't change the y for an i as they do in 3rd person singular, e.g. study - studying NOT studing.
· In the -ing form, when a verb ends in consonant, vowel, consonant, you double the last consonant: e.g. swim > swimming.
Be carefull!!!! You need an object pronoun with these verbs, e.g.
Do you like swimming?
Yes, I like swimming very much.
Yes, I like it very much.
Yes, I like very much. (WRONG)
