3. PRONUNCIATION
/i/ /ai/ and /ei/
- i + consonant + e is usually pronounced /ai/, eg. nice. (there exceptions: eg. since)
- i between consonants is usually pronounced /i/, e.g. sit.
- a + consonant + e is usually pronounced /ei/ when it is on a stressed syllable, eg. place.
- ay is always pronounced /ei/, eg. day.
- age when unstressed is usually pronounced /id3/, eg. village
