This stucture is a type of passive, but usually without the use of by (i.e. by somebody): I had the central heating checked by British Gas.
When we arrange (and usually pay) for someone to do something for us (either because we can't or don't want to do it ourselves).
· He always has his suits made at the tailor's shop.
· He has his house repainted every two years.
· How often do you have your car serviced?
· I don't have my house cleaned, I clean it myself.
You can change "have" for "get" for more informal situations:
- He always gets his suits made at the tailor's shop.
- I'm getting my car repaired tomorrow.
We can use this structure in any tense and with modal verbs. Look below:
