Programme: In the Dragons' Den
Vocabulary
- take a share in the profits- A plan that gives employees a share in the profits of the company. Each employee receives a percentage of those profits based on the company's earnings.
- entrepreneur- a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.
- product- the totality of goods or services that a company makes available.
- market- the field of trade or business.
- profitable- remunerative
- reject- to refuse to accept (someone or something).
- be successful- resulting in or attended with success.
- to make it-
- worthless- of no use, importance, or value; good-for-nothing.
- IDIOM: ' (To have) A chip on your shoulder' (tener una espina clavada, estar resentido)
Words with different meanings
Sometimes a word can have two completely different meanings:
WORK
I work in a pharmacy (it's my job)
The TV doesn't work (It's broken)
RUN
I usually go running every morning (sport)
My bother runs his own business (he's the boss)
FIRE
She was fired last week (was sacked)
When the police officer fired the gun everybody screamed. (shoot a gun)
MARKET
There is a market for this product (you can sell it, it's profitable)
I usually go to the market to buy fruit and vegetables. (place where food is sold)
COMPANY
She set up an online company (she started her own business)
My friend Lisa is good company (a good person to be with).
